Clinical partnerships
We are proud to share our pediatric expertise to support community hospitals and providers in the state of Colorado and across the Rocky Mountain region. Each partnership is uniquely tailored to meet the needs of the collective community including children, families, physicians and other clinical providers.
Maternal fetal medicine - perinatal partnerships
We believe every mom and their baby deserve the best possible care throughout their high-risk pregnancy. That's why our Colorado Fetal Care Center partners closely with local obstetric (OB) providers to support expecting moms in need of maternal fetal subspecialty care. The Colorado Fetal Care Center offers a full spectrum of maternal, fetal, neonatal and pediatric subspecialty care including maternal fetal medicine specialists, fetal cardiologists, fetal radiologists, fetal surgeons, pediatric surgeons, neonatologists, psychologists and genetics experts.
Providers from the Colorado Fetal Care Center also host outreach clinics, both in person and via telehealth, for maternal fetal medicine services. Through these outreach clinics, patients can benefit from our diverse expertise without the stress of traveling for all their care needs throughout pregnancy. And if patients do need to travel to Denver, our providers collaborate closely with their local OB provider to facilitate excellent care coordination.
Neonatal partnerships
In partnership with the University of Colorado (CU) School of Medicine, we provide neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) coverage with neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners to 12 partner NICUs across Colorado. We are committed to providing exceptional support to our partner NICUs, including neonatology medical directorship services, neonatology coverage, neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) and tele-neonatology support by our board-certified neonatologists.
Medical directorships allow our neonatologists to support partner NICUs and act as a thought leader for the development and implementation of their goals and priorities. In partnership with local NICU leadership, our neonatologists may provide guidance for policies to improve quality of care and promote efficient and effective delivery of NICU-related services.
Neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) provide dedicated neonatal care across Colorado’s Front Range region. From the most complex care in our Level IV NICU on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora to specialized care at partner Level II and III NICUs around Colorado, our NNPs are a critical part of our neonatology team.
In our partnered community sites, our NNPs care for critically ill infants and those with minor complications, while also attending high-risk deliveries and collaborating with local providers. And we provide this care 24/7. Outside of the care provided to neonates and their families, the NNP team also partners with individual site leadership to help educate their clinical staff on the most up-to-date practices of neonatal care on an ongoing basis. Our goal is to elevate neonatal care practice in our hospitals and across Colorado.
Our tele-neonatology service utilizes video-based technology that enables real-time consultation between the partner NICU and Children’s Colorado. Through tele-neonatology services, Children’s Colorado neonatologists offer consultations for clinical decision-making, as well as guidance on stabilizing patients in need of transfer. Together, these services allow more babies and their families to stay close to home for care and may prevent expensive travel costs associated with transfers.
Partner sites include:
Boulder Community Health
University of Colorado Health System (UC Health)
Pediatric and nursery partnerships

Specialty outreach clinics for children
In partnership with CU School of Medicine, Children’s Colorado provides care to children in more than 30 cities and four states through in-person and telehealth pediatric specialty outreach clinics. The specialty outreach clinics provide an opportunity for our pediatric providers and staff to see patients in their own community in partnership with local pediatric offices or hospitals in the community.
Children’s Colorado Care Alliance partnerships
The Care Alliance is a network comprised of Children’s Colorado and community hospital partners that provide pediatric care across the Rocky Mountain region. Our Care Alliance seeks to support community hospitals across the region by providing pediatric care in their community and to streamline care to Children’s Colorado for higher level pediatric care that isn’t available in the partner’s community.
Although each care alliance is uniquely tailored to meet the specific needs of local communities, they all share the same goals: to elevate care close to home and provide coordinated care between a patient’s community of providers and Children’s Colorado when a patient needs to receive care away from their community.
Care Alliance offerings
Children’s Colorado is committed to forming strategic partnerships with local and regional hospitals to enhance fetal, neonatal and pediatric care. We have developed a formal partnership offering that is customized to each partner hospital based on their needs. The offering includes but is not limited to the following:
- Clinical care including perinatal, neonatal and pediatric support through call coverage, virtual second opinion and OneCall
- Education through training, mentoring and continuing education opportunities
- Marketing and branding support to promote our Care Alliance partnership and other relevant needs
- Research and innovation opportunities that support streamlined care and care close to home
