The Sports Medicine Center offers state-of-the-art clinics, labs and gyms for testing, diagnosing and treating all types of injuries and conditions that affect a young athlete’s sports performance.
Sports medicine clinic and therapy gym locations
Children's Hospital Colorado’s Sports Medicine-trained physicians are available to see athletes at several locations. Our Sports Medicine Center has physical therapy gyms within the community that offer young athletes rehabilitation services close to home. The gyms were designed specifically for sports-related rehabilitation with strength, agility, speed and endurance training equipment.
Each facility has uniquely trained physical therapists who specialize in sport-specific evaluation, treatment and guidance for appropriate and successful return to sport.

Our Center for Gait and Movement Analysis (CGMA), commonly called the “Gait Lab,” is the only center of its kind in our region. Within the lab, specialists use 3D motion-capture technology to analyze muscle activity and limb and body movement.
Using the most advanced computer and video technology, information from the CGMA helps us evaluate and improve performance for young athletes by seeing how they walk, run and move.
As a former level 10 gymnast, coach, NCAA gymnastic judge and USA Gymnastics medical staff,Emily Sweeney, MD, is an expert not only in the sport butin caring for and treating young gymnasts. As asports medicine physician,Dr. Sweeney has spoken at many national and international conferences and has published research on gymnastic medicine. During your visit, Dr. Sweeney and several members of our sports medicineteam will help you improve strength, mobility and stability to ensure the best performance.
We care for young athleteswho compete in artistic, rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics, as well as trampoline and tumbling for an acute injury, overuse or chronic injury or if they are healthy and want to decrease the risk of future injury. Our team can alsoassistwithnutrition, recovery, training plans and mental health issues.

The Running Athlete Clinic
Many young athletes,especially those that run competitively, need to be in good running shape for their sports or running for fun. The Running Athlete Clinic(TRAC) helps children and adolescents who need evaluation for injuries, nutrition services, physical therapy or to better understand running biomechanics. As the first multidisciplinary pediatric running clinic in our region, our sports medicine experts are specifically trained to design plans for growing bodies and use imaging tests and treatment plans to ensure you and your family get the best, most efficient care possible.
