Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) team will help bring your baby into this world as healthy as possible, and that’s just the start. Since no two babies are the same, we have a number of specialized neonatology programs to provide your baby and your family exactly the care they need.

From customized transport services to specialized breathing programs to psychological and logistical support for mom and dad, we go beyond basic NICU services to meet all your family’s needs. These programs allow your baby to see all the necessary specialists during their stay in the NICU for more effective and efficient treatment.

Neonatal Transport Services

Everything we do is tailored specifically for children and our Neonatal Transport Services are no different. We provide several vehicles designed and equipped specifically for our tiniest patients and staff it with providers who have specific training in neonatal critical care to make sure your baby arrives safely.

Small Baby Program

Many babies in our NICU are born extremely premature and undersized, which is why we have a dedicated Small Baby Program for our tiniest patients. Recognizing that these infants have unique needs and challenges as they grow, our team uses specific treatments and environmental support to improve the outcomes of our smallest patients and help them catch up to their peers.

Neonatal Body Cooling Program

Our Neonatal Body Cooling Program is one of the most experienced and technologically advanced in the country. A diverse team of specialists provides body cooling therapy for infants who have experienced brain injuries or impaired brain function. Your child will receive care from a team that specializes in children’s neurology and follow-up care at the only neonatal brain injury clinic in the Rocky Mountain region.

Breastfeeding Support Program

The lactation specialists and nurses in our neonatology unit are specially trained to help facilitate breastfeeding and bonding between you and your baby. We consider breastmilk a medication and work hard to help moms provide it to even the sickest babies. Our Breastfeeding Support Program also features a Milk Lab that prepares breast milk and provides other services to help your baby get the healthiest start possible.

Psychology and Social Work Program

Having a baby in the NICU is stressful for the whole family. That’s why we provide a range of mental health and social work services to care for your family and ease your transition out of the hospital.

Ventilator Care Program

This multidisciplinary program brings together respiratory and neonatal resources to care for infants with chronic respiratory failure. Experts in the Ventilator Care Program provide care to infants who require long-term ventilation support for breathing issues and education to their families.

Our team also provides consultation to NICUs across the U.S. for infants with severe respiratory failure. We offer a coordinated approach to medical management and surgery when necessary. We provide extensive hands-on training for families whose infants require long-term mechanical ventilation once they go home.

Neonatal Palliative Care Program

If your baby is seriously ill, our Neonatal Palliative Care team will provide specialized care for your baby and support both of you throughout the medical journey to help improve your quality of life. Our caregivers are trained to ease the symptoms, discomfort and stress that you and your baby might be experiencing during your time with us.

Pulmonary Hypoplasia Clinic

Our Pulmonary Hypoplasia Clinic is the only multidisciplinary program in the Rocky Mountain region offering comprehensive care for infants and children with conditions that limit lung growth. Our neonatologists work with specialists in our nationally ranked Heart and Breathing Institutes to provide complete, long-term care for children with pulmonary hypoplasia, pulmonary hypertension and related conditions.
